Immediately after the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, M.K. Atatürk wanted to create an institute to conduct research in the field of Turkish language, Turkish literature, Turkish history, Turkish art, Turkish ethnography, Turkish geography and to convey their results to the world of science. According to the decision of the great leader on November 12, 1924, such an academic institution, the Institute of Turkic Studies was established under Istanbul University, and the famous Turkologist M.F. Köprülü was appointed as the director of the institute. Soon, under the organization of M.F. Köprülü, some manuscripts, books, magazines covering various subjects of Turkish language, literature, history, art, geography, ethnography and Turkology were brought to the library of Turkology to create the library of the Institute of Turkic. The main stock of the library consisted of a library of 7325 volumes bought for 3000 gold from Nikolay Fyodorovich Katanov, a researcher of Oriental languages, a Russian Turkologist from the Khakas Turks, an orientalist and a folklorist. In 1925, the "Turkiyet" magazine of the Institute of Turkic Studies was published. The magazine published opinions and researches of local and foreign scholars on Turkish language, Turkish literature, Turkish history, Turkish geography and other fields, as well as news and valuable articles on Turkological research in Europe and Asia in accordance with international standards. Currently, important articles for Turkology are regularly published in the collection in Turkish, Azerbaijani, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Uzbek, Turkmen, Tatar, as well as European languages, French, German, English, and Russian.
