In the 1970s, at the initiative of the Republic of Bolivia, debates about the need to protect Intangible Cultural Heritage (hereinafter - ICH) and the relevant international legal act began. In 1989, the UNESCO international organization adopted a proposal for the preservation of folklore. By the end of the 1990s, the idea of developing a new regulatory act gained support among UNESCO member states, especially in East Asia, Africa, and Latin America. In 1993, UNESCO launched the "Living Treasures of Humanity" program, and since 1998, the "Publication of Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity" project. This article talks about the processes of protection and listing of the intangible cultural heritage of Kazakhstan and the Convention on the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
