Literature is the field where the values of a nation can be determined most closely and comprehensively. The subjects and characters in a poem, novel, epic or story, which are literary products, reflect the characteristics of the values of that society. The history, culture, language, daily life and many other characteristics of a society are included in literature. In addition, literature courses in education and training systems and books taught in literature courses provide more effective and accurate determinations about the values of societies. In this study, patriotism and heroism values in secondary school literature textbooks in Kazakhstan and Turkey were determined and a comparative evaluation was made in the context of values education. While examining patriotism and heroism values in both countries, it was observed that there were some differences in terms of content. For example, while the values of patriotism and heroism in Turkey are included together with love of flag and religious values, the value of love of flag is not found in the textbooks in Kazakhstan.
