Writer, playwright, critic Mehdi Huseyn (1909-1965) devoted space to both modern and historical topics in his work. The historical plays written by writer are “Sheikh Shamil” (1941), “Nizami” (1942), “Javanshir” (1957). Writing the lives, activities and times of those historical figures, writers show the problems that are relevant for modern times and recommend drawing conclusions from these historical events. M. Huseyn also revived the personality of the thinker-poet Nizmi Ganjavi, who occupies a central place in the history of Azerbaijani thought, in the center of the drama "Nizami". In this work, the literary poet expressed his attitude to the events of the modern period by talking about his life and activities. The author put the motif of patriotism and love, which is relevant in every era, as the main problem in the work. History and modernity are mutually reflected in the drama.
