In this article, the demographic situation of Turkmens living outside the borders of the Republic of Turkmenistan is analysed. The study focuses on the population of Turkmens living in Iran, Afghanistan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Pakistan since the early periods until today. However, Turkmens in China, Iraq, Syria and Turkey are not included in the subject. The old and current numbers of Turkmens living in Iran, Afghanistan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, the regions they live in and the tribes and clans they belong to are shown. Due to the insufficiency of information about the Turkmens living in Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine and Pakistan, only their numbers were given. In the study, attention was drawn to the lack of information about the population of Turkmens living in the world and the lack of adequate research.
