AZERBAYCAN’IN KARABAĞ’I ÖZGÜRLEŞTİRME HAREKATININ BÖLGEDEKİ DAYANIŞMANIN PEKİŞTİRİLMESİNDEKİ ROLÜ

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Armenia took advantage of Azerbaijan’s unpreparedness and occupied Karabakh. It is important to develop solidarity in the region. Türkiye and the young Turkish states established after the collapse of the Soviet Union soon faced their real possibilities and expectations and started to develop their relations on the basis of equal partners. However, the fact that the Russian Federation recovered in a short period of time and started to play an active role in regional politics caused the regional states to act cautiously in the development of relations. The cooperation between Türkiye and Azerbaijan showed itself in the liberation of Karabakh. Because this incident led to a change in the concept of security threat. Türkiye’s support to Azerbaijan has demonstrated the benefits of cooperation. This study analyzes the course of the Karabakh War, Türkiye’s role in the region and the impact of the developments on the states in the South Caucasus and Central Asia, especially Turkmenistan. Finally, Turkmenistan’s launch of an export move through Azerbaijani natural gas lines, which is one of the most concrete examples of cooperation moves, was announced.
